Rectory Cottage: Full House Refurbishment in West Malling
Ryan & Sons Construction completed a full refurbishment of Rectory Cottage, a property dating from 1920 in West Malling, Kent. The project included a kitchen, smoking room, four bedrooms and three bathrooms, alongside an oak carport with an annexe.
One of the most distinctive elements was converting a room previously used as a safe into a downstairs toilet with a glass door.
Full refurbishment of a period home
The refurbishment covered the house throughout, updating its accommodation and bringing together the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and dedicated smoking room as part of one project.
Working within an existing period property also meant adapting some unusual spaces to new uses, rather than simply replacing like for like.

A room formerly used as a safe was converted into a downstairs toilet, complete with a glass door. This gave an unusual part of the building a practical everyday purpose and became a distinctive feature of the refurbishment.
